UPMMUN 2026 will take place at ETSIAAB from March 13 to 15. In this United Nations simulation, based on debate and diplomacy, participants will take on the role of international delegates representing assigned countries, aiming to reach agreements on specific topics of international relevance.

In the fifth edition of UPMMUN, work will be carried out across five committees - three in English and two in Spanish - focusing on the following themes:

  • In Spanish, OIEA: Global lessons from the Spanish blackout: The role of nuclear energy in the transition to renewable energies. The debate will focus on the blackout in Spain last April, which reopened the discussion on how to ensure a secure power supply amid the transition to renewable energy sources.
  • In Spanish, FAO: Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.

  - Topic A: The impact of mega-farms on rural Europe’s identity. This session will examine the socio-economic and cultural consequences of industrial livestock farming on rural communities and traditional agricultural landscapes.

  - Topic B: The role of alternative proteins in meeting 2035 climate and food security goals. Delegates will discuss integrating new protein sources into global food systems to reduce environmental footprints while ensuring food security.

  • In English: ITU The United Nations agency for digital technologies

Topic: Securing global infrastructure and undersea cables during crises. This committee will debate how to protect and diversify global telecommunications infrastructure, strengthen crisis response, and ensure that all States remain reliably connected.

  • In English: CCPR (Human Rights Committee)

Topic: Rights and duties of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). This committee will explore whether and how legal rights or protections should be granted to AGI systems, the responsibilities of States and developers during their design and implementation, and how to prevent abuses while preserving human dignity and control.

  • In English: DISEC: Disarmament and International Security Committee

Topic A: Operation Trojan Shield and the legality of encrypted messaging. This committee will examine how far States can go in accessing or manipulating encrypted communications to combat crime and terrorism, and where the legal and ethical boundaries should be drawn.

Topic B: Regulation of biological weapons: risks and gaps in international law. This topic invites delegates to examine the limits of current international law - from verification shortcomings to weak enforcement and ambiguous definitions - and to debate how the international community should update norms, oversight, and accountability to prevent misuse while protecting peaceful research. The rest of this activity will be conducted entirely in English (minimum B2 level required).
