Internal quality assurance system (SAIC) of this Master’s Degree
The School of Agricultural, Food, and Biosystems Engineering (ETSIAAB) of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) has made quality an essential element of its policy. Its internal quality assurance system (SAIC) has adopted the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) guidelines and the Madrid+d Foundation for Knowledge programme.
The current Quality Guide and Procedures of the SAIC of the ETSIAAB were approved at a meeting of the centre's School Board held on September 23, 2022.
As specified in the SAIC 2.1 of the ETSIAAB, the quality assurance of Master's Degrees is structured in these levels:
- Quality Commission of the ETSIAAB.
- Academic Coordination Committee of the Degree.
- Degree Quality Committee.
- Subject Coordinator.
The objectives of this Master's Degree's internal quality assurance system are to guarantee the quality of the training and services for the students and to promote constant efforts to review and enhance the programme.
Academic Degree Coordination Committee
As established in point 3 of the SAIC 2.1 UPM Quality Guide, the composition of the Academic Committee of the Degree is (at least) as follows:
- The Deputy Director of Academic Planning.
- The Master’s Degree Coordinator, selected by the Dean of the ETSIAAB.
- The Course Coordinators.
- The Student Delegate of the Master’s Degree.

The Regulations on Academic Planning and Monitoring of Degrees adapted to R.D. 1393/2007, approved by the UPM on October 23, 2014, establish the functions of the Academic Degree Coordination Committee as follows:
- Ensure coherence of training and assessment activities of subjects.
- Ensure the suitability of training programmes, promoting improvement in teaching results.
- Detect and correct overlap or training deficiencies between degree subjects.
- Promote the balance of student's workload.
- Verify the development and evaluation of skills established in the Academic Coordination Committees of the course.
- Design the academic degree report with those responsible for quality, internships, mobility and employment, and set the appropriate corrective actions.
- Analyse the proposals for the Bachelor's or Master's Degree Final Projects, propose tutors or co-tutors, and send their proposal to the centre's Academic Planning Committee.
- Submit the Evaluation Tribunals for Bachelor's or Master's Degree Final Projects to the Academic Planning Committee.
- To deal with any matter related to the vertical coordination of the Degree.
The Academic Committee of the Degree meets at least twice every academic year.
Degree Quality Committee
As established in point 3 of the SAIC 2.1 UPM quality Guide, the Degree Quality Committee is composed of at least the following members:
- The Deputy Director of Quality and Accreditations.
- The Deputy Director of Academic Planning.
- The Degree Coordinator, selected by the Dean.
- A Lecturer who is a member of the Vertical Degree Committee.
- A Lecturer member of the Horizontal Committees of the Degree for the Bachelor's Degrees and Qualifying Master's Degrees.
- An Administration and Services Staff member selected by the Degree Coordinator.
- A representative of the Degree students proposed by the Centre's Student Delegation.

The functions of the Quality Committee of the Degree are:
- Study the Academic Degree Report and propose the appropriate corrective actions to the Degree Vertical Committee.
- Verify compliance with the requirements of the Quality Guide, the Quality Policy and the Quality Objectives applied to the Degree.
- Check its implementation through the Annual Quality Plans related to the Degree.
- Check the effectiveness of the processes through the indicators associated with them.
- Study satisfaction surveys of students, teaching and research staff, and PTGAS on the Degree to propose criteria for considering proposals for improvement derived from these results and reporting them to the Quality Committee of the School.
- Any other competence commissioned by the School Board.
The Quality Commission of the Degree meets at least once every semester.
Subject coordinator
The Subject Coordinator plans and reviews the contents and activities of each subject in the Learning Guide published on the GAUSS platform with the rest of the teachers. Once the academic semester is over, the Coordinator is responsible for preparing a Semester Report that includes monitoring the subject and interpreting the results obtained, leading to a proposal for corrective measures on the GAUSS platform.
